Two of the windows which had been boarded over many years before, were revealed and immediately gave welcoming natural light to the ‘main room’ which now incorporated the snooker room, an open plan format had returned Legion Hall back to its original 30ft x 40ft measurement.
The windows stretched out along the back wall of the bar at regular intervals.
A single window has been retained and allows for a pleasing poppy display.
A number of members were assembled at short notice to enhance a photoshoot for ‘an advert in The Cornishman’.
Was this photo organised to advertise the new look club room—or for a Real Ale Festival ?
This second window alcove now forms an appropriate focal point for Remembrance.
This window would have been part of the old snooker room and its location can be seen in the ‘Sunday lunchtime’ photo where the display cabinet once lived.
Many years ago there had been the possibility of opening a window at the gable end of the building which would have allowed views down to the War Memorial and the harbour.
Imagine the view that such a window would have provided!
A similar suggestion, to have an upper floor installed, fell foul of the overall expenditure involved although outline planning permission had been given.
Another project - to install a ramp for the disabled - remains a matter for discussion.
