Formerly called Quay Street, the washing is hanging where Legion Hall now stands.
The building of the Hall meant the destruction of the last ‘withy’ enclosure in Mousehole Where the toilets are at present there was once a little lea. Willows that grew there produced tough but flexible twigs. On fine days in late autumn, groups of children would gather by the open door to watch Mr John James Johns amongst others, skilfully twisting and bending the osiers to make their crab and lobster pots.
